Here Are Three Video Email Marketing Tactics You Can Try

By Dave GrendzynskiJul 8 /2021

If you or your video marketing agency are producing a video about your business, you’re going to have many options when it comes to posting it. You can put it on your website, social media pages, and YouTube for sure. But don’t forget about video email marketing.

Video email marketing is very effective. Why? There are 3.9 billion daily email users. This number is expected to climb to 4.3 billion by 2023.

And how about this? Adding the word “video” to your email subject line can increase open rates by 19% and clickthrough rates by 65%.

Studies show that when you watch a video, you’re likely to retain more information compared to reading. That’s because our brains process visual information differently. And if your video appeals to your recipient’s emotions, they’re more likely to forward it or share it with their friends and peer groups on social media.

Let’s take a look at three video email marketing strategies that you can try.

3 Video Email Marketing Tactics

1. Add a GIF

Adding a GIF to one of your emails is a great way to bring it to life. Whether it’s some words jiggling around on the page, a funny dance move, or a cartoon firework display, it’s an easy way to spice up your emails and spark the interest of your audience.

Just remember to create the right CTA. Part of your plan is deciding what action you want people to take when someone watches your video. Grabbing their attention with a GIF, and then not getting your desired result will get frustrating.

So, like your email subject line, don’t be afraid to spend a little extra time on your CTA because the right CTA will drive home the point of your video.

2. Link your video to an image with a play button

A slightly different (and maybe better) way to use video in an email is to link your video to an image with a play button.

Video marketing software provider Wistia thought they could use video thumbnails in marketing emails to increase their emails’ click-through rates — and they were right! Wistia’s experiment saw a 40% increase in click-through rate from a video thumbnail in an email.

3. Embed a personalized video

One of the best ways you can connect with your audience is to embed a personalized video in the email that you’re sending.

Personalized video is customized to each individual viewer. It allows you to speak directly to the person you’re emailing and provides the opportunity to insert personal elements, including:

  • The viewer’s name
  • Job title
  • Call-to-action

Here’s an example:

This customization is very easy to do using HubSpot because their software is integrated with Vidyard. They even provide a video support page that explains how to use video in your email marketing step-by-step.

Add Video Marketing to Your Emails

The fact is that there are many ways to use video to reach your target audience, but you need to start somewhere. So, the next time you are planning your upcoming email marketing campaign, think about including video.
