10 Easy Marketing Tasks to Do When You Have a Cold

10 Easy Marketing Tasks to Do When You Have a Cold

By John McTigueJan 3 /2013

how to do inbound marketing with a coldIt's that time of year, and sooner or later, most of us will come down with a cold or (hopefully not) the flu. Despite my near-religious hand washing routine and aversion to big holiday get-togethers, I have somehow managed to contract a chest cold. Great. Oh well, rather than feel sorry for myself, I'm going to try to be at least somewhat productive. After all, I've canceled all my meetings, since I can't talk. What can I do (besides sleep it off)? Here are my plans for the day.

  1. Write a blog post - This one's easy for me, since I often write blogs in my sleep—at least I dream them up. What to write about? My cold, of course.
  2. Finish that e-book - Yes, I'm about 1/2 way through my self-imposed holiday project, writing an ebook on Enterprise Lead Generation. I know, boring, right? But I have no excuses other than I feel like #&%v, so why not get this bad boy finished?
  3. Check LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Google+. I don't do this nearly often enough, so this one should be fun. Lots of holiday pics and vids shared this time of year. Maybe I'll even try to post a few myself. I need to get up to speed on Tumblr too, so let's do that.
  4. Take a look at my schedule - Maybe this year I won't be surprised every day by things that have been planned but ignored by me. Maybe I'll even prepare for some of these meetings, rather than "wing it." Maybe.
  5. Take a long nap - I need to do this so I'm not sick for the rest of the week.
  6. Read a few resumes - Yes, we're hiring, so it would help if I would spend some time catching up on the applicants we've received and think about how they might fit in here at Kuno.
  7. Write a few thank you emails - We're in 2013 now, so our clients should be getting thank you's from us. I can do that.
  8. Do a little research - This is a great time of year since so many bloggers and other experts write up their predictions for the next year. Great way to catch up on the trends and new things coming.
  9. Do something creative - Maybe I'll make an Instagram. Never done that before. I know, get with the program, old man!
  10. Drink a bunch of good tea - This will keep me going today (along with some meds). I need to make this more of a habit to prevent colds and other maladies.

Last, but not least, I'll be reading and commenting on your comments—your favorite things to do when you're sick. Don't forget, your boss and clients will be reading this, so it's a great chance to look like a workaholic. I know I'll be impressed. See you on the other side...
